Our program
Yeerongpilly Early Childhood Development Program was originally established by a group of parents of young deaf children in 1953 and until the 1970s, it was the only preschool facility in Queensland. For more than 60 years, the centre was situated in O’Loan Street, Yeerongpilly and was relocated to purpose-built buildings at Yeronga State School at the end of 2013. A unique collaboration has evolved between the Department of Education (Queensland) and the charitable association originally started by parents (now known as Hear For Kids). Hear For Kids continues to provide therapy support for our centre.
Our programs are guided by the
Belonging, Being and Becoming - Early Years Learning Framework for Australia, and developmental milestones focusing on communication, including language, speech, listening and play. They are delivered through both individual and group sessions and value the parent as the primary facilitator of communication. The children’s goals are established in collaboration with the parents and are reviewed regularly.
